Hello

 

 My name is Joe I am a Blackhawk and OH-58 Crewchief.  I have been tasked with restoring an OH-6 66-7791 According to the historical records It belonged to C troop 7/17.  I was wondering if anyone remebers this bird. I would like a little history, some pictures if possable.

Centaur 03 very active 1972 I-Corps

Been doing Research trying to seperate the Wheat from the Chaff so to speak. Primarily Phu Bai Hue and LZ Sally during Easter Offensive. Found USMC Advisors Logbook for May thru June 1972 Centaur 03 was everywhere.The Logbook has grid coords and results reports from Ridgebeam Charlie and Rangers. Dusty Holms should be ID'd shortly they JPAC did recovery work at Crash Site earlier this year.I was Radio Operator Ground Voice for 20th TASS Birddogs Covey Bilk Trail Rustic's and such

 This is John Brennan, active member of the VHCMA
and the 114th Avn Co Assn. I'm collecting 
"nicknames" (i.e. FLYING COFFIN,IRON BUTTERFLY) that
in-country Army copter crews painted on their aircraft
during their Vietnam tours, 1961-73. Future book by
aviation publisher is in the making. 
Have cataloged over 1,900 names to date. I expect
that number to exceed 2,500 when complete. Would very
much like to include as many personalized Blue Ghost
copter names as possible. Photos of "names" are fine
but not necessary to be included in the database
section of the book. "Names" alone will do.
The second part of this book project is the photo
collection of helicopter "nose art" that includes
"names", artwork, graffiti, everything & anything that
was painted officially and unofficially on in-country
Army copters, 1961-73.

Good afternoon fellow Blueghost Thank you for allowing me to join this site.

 

I was with F troop 8th cav from 72-73 during the stand down, I was assigned to the engine shop during that time.

 

When I joined the Blueghost I had no idea of the history of the Blueghost, after reading some of the post on here I have a better idea of how great the story of the Blueghost.

 

A little about me my tour in 72-73 was my second tour of nam, my first tour was 69-70 I was with the 299th cbt eng bn at that time I was on the water point.  when I came back to nam in 72-73 I was in for a big shock for our rifles was keeped in the arms room unless we was on guard duty, something that was unheard of in 69-70 where our rifles was with us at all times.

Good Morning BlueGhosts,

 

I have provided some early pictures of BlueGhost after arriving at Chu Lai, Dec 1967 to about May of 1968. 

 

I was a member of the Scout section.  You will notice our sign,"McKenzie Raiders", Capt McKenzie was my Platoon Leader and SFC DeLoach was our Platoon Sgt .  I have other photos taken at Hawk Hill and a few others on a sortie.

 

I hope you enjoy them as much as I did finding them.

Kham Duc - May 1968

For those Blueghosts who were involved in the May 1968 Kham Duc battles, the June/July 2007 VFW magazine has an article about what took place. F/8 was not mentioned in the article, but I've heard some Blueghosts talk about their personal Kham Duc experiences at reunions. The title of the article is: "Fierce Fight at Kham Duc." I could not find a link for the article.

Who was Blue Ghost 22 in 67-68?

Received an e-mail from Victor Cook last week. Vic was an original Blue Ghost and a crew chief door gunner in the scout platoon, Blue Ghost 12. Vic has several photos from the time at Fort Knox that he will send. Said that he had photos of Scouts, David Kemp, Robin Davis, Joe Johnson, Ron Osgelbsy and SFC DeLoach.

Vic wanted to know if anyone remembers who the Captain was that flew the UH-1C Hog gunship, call sign Blue Ghost 22, in 67-68. Vic says that BG 22 always flew cover for BG 12 when he was flying as a door gunner with pilot Bob Pruett and observer Sgt Beauford

I don’t recall who Blue Ghost 22 was.  Can anyone help?

A year goes by (as it does in stories like this) and the American golfer is back. On the same hole, he again hits a bad drive into the woods and the Leprechaun is there waiting for him. "Twas me that made ye hit the ball here," the little guy says. "I just want to ask ye, how's yer golf game?" "My game is fantastic!" the golfer answers. I'm an internationally famous golfer now." He adds, "By the way, it's good to see you're all right." I did that fer yer golf game, you know. And tell me, how's yer money situation?" "When I need cash, I just reach in my pocket and pull out $100.00 bills I didn't even know were there!" "I did that fer ye also. And tell me, how's yer sex life?" The golfer blushes, turns his head away in embarrassment, and says shyly, "It's OK." "C'mon, c'mon now," urged the Leprechaun, "I'm wanting to know if I did a good job. How many times a week?" Blushing even more, the golfer looks around then whispers, "Once, sometimes twice a week." "What??" responds the Leprechaun in shock. "That's all? Only once or twice a week?"
