This is John Brennan, active member of the VHCMA
and the 114th Avn Co Assn. I'm collecting
"nicknames" (i.e. FLYING COFFIN,IRON BUTTERFLY) that
in-country Army copter crews painted on their aircraft
during their Vietnam tours, 1961-73. Future book by
aviation publisher is in the making.
Have cataloged over 1,900 names to date. I expect
that number to exceed 2,500 when complete. Would very
much like to include as many personalized Blue Ghost
copter names as possible. Photos of "names" are fine
but not necessary to be included in the database
section of the book. "Names" alone will do.
The second part of this book project is the photo
collection of helicopter "nose art" that includes
"names", artwork, graffiti, everything & anything that
was painted officially and unofficially on in-country
Army copters, 1961-73.
Send "nickname" info and/or scanned "nose art" pics
to johnmailman@yahoo.com

Billy passed away peacefully in the presence of his wife and son at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home on June 12, 2008 after a lengthy illness. The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent and compassionate care provided by Dr. Roy Fleniken, medical director of the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home. The family also wishes to thank the following physicians for their excellent care: Dr. Mark Mainous, Dr. Michael Rainer, Dr. Michael Sewell, Dr. Sanjeevi Tivakaran and Dr. Michael Walton as well as the excellent nursing and ancillary care provided at Willis-Knighton Bossier, the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home, and Twin Rivers Health and Rehabilitation Center in Arkadelphia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to the Bullington-Williams Pre-Med Scholarship Fund at Ouachita Baptist University (www.obu.edu) or Park Hill Baptist Church, 3333 Hollywood Road, Arkadelphia, AR 71923.

BLUEGHOSTS PATCH

I don't know how I was lucky enough to find this site.  I was the Company Clerk for F/8th Cav in 1969, when it was under the command of Major Paul R. Stalker (The Midnight Stalker).  As time has passed. so have many of the names of my fellow service-man.  I was initially assigned to HHC, l23d Aviatrion  Bn, 16th Avn Gp, Americal Div for about 7 months, and I requested a transfer to F/8th Cav, and DEROSed from there Nov/Dec '70(arrived in-countr y May '69).  I was wondering if anyone out there knows where I can purchase a F/8th Blueghost patch.  I live in Louisville, Kentucky.  If I had known this site/group existed I could have attented your reunion earlier this year.  Hopefully I can "run" into some former troops, or just meet some new ones who shared the same experiences.  Thanks for taking the time to read this!

John Williamson, Blue Ghost 1972-73

 Time: 10:33:00 PM PST US
From: "Ken Korenek"
Subject: Tragedy at Skinner Ranch, Jordan Valley, Oregon

Kolbers,
It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that John Williamson, Kolb
Kolbra, N49KK crashed and was killed just before 10 AM local time, Sunday,
May 25th at the Skinner Ranch Airport (12OR), Jordan Valley, Oregon.
(Skyvector Link: http://skyvector.com/#35-9-3-5601-1393)
>From information relayed from the remote area by the investigating Sherriff,
John was flying with two other airplanes. The other two planes landed and
were going to take pictures as John did a fly-by. As he flew by in a sharp
bank, something happened and he went down.
It is almost certain that he did not suffer.
All this information is very preliminary and the only thing certain is that
we lost a friend.
I am John's flying buddy here in Arlington and am trying my best to help the
family thru this tragedy. I was unaware of who was accompanying John after
the Monument Valley weekend, so if any of you know who the other two planes
and pilots might be, please relay any contact information you may have to
me.
I will keep you all posted as new information presents itself and will
advise you of funeral arrangements when they are final.
John was a really good guy and I am going to miss him.

Blue Ghost Reunion Videos

Videos of the recent Blue Ghost reunion taken by Joe Brown.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zs7lJL-W7XU

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBkw7n1rXRw

Dan Buckley’s speech at the end of the second video merits comment. Buckley declares that there are three “major Blue Ghost web sites” which he proceeds to cite by naming the authors and further says “ we owe them a huge thank you.”

Without question those individuals have done an excellent job and deserve thanks, however, Buckley’s comments are unfortunate and somewhat misplaced because as of the last count there have been at least ten internet web sites authored by Blue Ghost veterans. All of those web sites demonstrated good intentions by portraying and promoting the Blue Ghost legacy in a positive manner. They certainly do not deserve to be thrown under the bus as Buckley has effectively done by inferring in a public forum that there are only “three major Blue Ghost web sites.” A statement such as this infers that all other Blue Ghost web sites are insignificant and not worth mentioning.

To selectively extend recognition to some veterans’ endeavors and not others seems arrogant and elitist and runs counter to what should be the objective of a veterans association. Buckley should consider his remarks more carefully before he makes another speech at a reunion.
